Lord Masham Mohair
Samuel Lister (1815–1906), later Lord Masham, is one of the towering figures in the history of British textiles, especially mohair. Born in Calverley, near Bradford, Yorkshire, he was from a family of wool merchants. In 1842, he patented a machine for combing wool and other difficult fibers, including mohair and alpaca. This invention revolutionized worsted spinning and enabled large-scale production of lustrous mohair and alpaca fabrics. Lord Masham built Manningham Mills in Bradford, commonly called Listers Mill. At its height, it was one of the largest textile factories in the world, employing over 11,000 workers and dominating mohair weaving globally
