Joseph Dandridge 1720 Satin Curtain Valerian
Product Code: LF12869
Joseph Dandridge, born in 1665 in Winslow, was an English silk-pattern designer of Huguenot heritage, as well as a natural history illustrator and enthusiastic amateur naturalist with a particular interest in entomology. Towards the close of the 17th century, many Huguenot silk weavers settled in the Spitalfields district of London including James Leman (1698–1745), who collaborated with talented artists including Christopher Baudouin and Joseph Dandridge. Several of Dandridge’s silk pattern designs, created between 1717 and 1722, including this design, are now held by the Victoria and Albert Museum and can be viewed in its Prints & Drawings Study Room.
