Linen Upholstery Fabric

Linen Upholstery Fabric

Linen is an ideal fabric for upholstery: it is middle weight, soft to the touch and is hard wearing. Being a natural textile it is good for subtle colours as it accepts and holds intricate dye shades well. Our Lindale collection of linens are ideal for upholstery.

The advantages of using linen for upholstery

For a soft and natural look linen is unbeatable. Linen covering for sofas and chairs can be made from just about any colour or pattern, but our Lindale collection of faded and retrospective florals gives a gentle and elegant finish. Linen's gentle period look makes it particularly good for furniture in informal rooms such as bedrooms. Linen material has a unique property - it feels cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Man-made upholstery, on the other hand, will not feel like this. Linen is made from natural unrefined natural fibres which do not require bleaching during the manufacturing process. As no harmful chemicals are used it is better for the environment. Linen fabrics are elegant, timeless and beautiful.

Linen Upholstery Material

Linen is an ideal upholstery fabric - it feels cool to the touch and is smooth, making the finished fabric free from lint. Also, it gets softer the more it is folded and washed. Linens naturally have a high luster; their natural colours range between shades of Ecru, grey, ivory, or tan. Linen varies in thickness and is textured and crisp. When prepared correctly it has the ability to absorb and lose water easily. Linen can absorb moisture without feeling unpleasantly damp to the skin, unlike cotton.

Linen is a very strong durable fabric, stronger wet than dry. The fibres do not stretch, and are resistant to damage from abrasion. Linen is resistant to clothes moths and relatively easy to care for, since it resists stains and dirt. It also has no lint or pilling tendency so the surface of your chair or sofa will remain smooth and attractive in appearance. Should you need to clean your linen upholstery, we recommend wiping with a damp cloth or the use of gentle in-situ dry cleaning.
